Arbor Real Estate’s Mentorship Program Guides New Agents Toward a Successful Career

The Arbor Mentorship Program is designed to help new agents entering the field by building the core skills needed to become a successful real estate agent. Veteran Real Estate professional, Scott Singer, facilitates the year-long program.

“We are looking for agents who are self-starters and motivated,” says Scott about the qualities he’d like to see in a mentee candidate. “We want professionals who value doing things right.”

As a former school teacher and educator, Scott knows a thing or two about guiding the learning process of impressionable students. Couple his education experience and his 17 years in the real estate industry, and he is the perfect fit to head the program. “I like the idea of leaving a legacy,” says Scott. “The program keeps me connected and helping people, which is what I love to do.”

The path that has led each agent to Arbor’s program is varied. Though Scott’s group does primarily consist of young professionals, they aren’t the only demographic drawn to it. Some mentees have already had successful careers in real estate-related fields like interior design and construction. Others are moms looking to re-enter the workplace or people who are in the midst of a career transition.

One agent who has completed the program is Zinat Torres. “Working with Scott was such a gift. He was so wonderful at helping me prepare for presentations and negotiations,” says Zinat.
“After my mentorship program had ended, I felt confident in what I was doing and understood the contract better than most agents today. I’m so grateful I had one of the best show me the way!”

After being accepted into the Arbor Mentorship Program, the participants meet formally as a group once a week with Scott. They discuss sales methods, lending practices, marketing ideas and real estate concepts. The mentees also benefit from going to broker previews together. Scott is available for one-on-one meeting with his students as well.

Kristin Barry, Managing Broker at Arbor Real Estate, believes the program falls right in line with the agency’s core values. “We believe in building people up,” says Kristin. “Whether it’s an agent, a buyer or seller or even someone in our community — Arbor is founded on the idea that we all have something we can offer others and it’s our obligation to do so when we can.”

Marcel Stiffey is a current mentee in the program. As a former professional rower and current coach at the Newport Aquatic Center, he was looking to make a career transition, and so he applied and was accepted into the program.
“Scott has created an atmosphere where I feel all my ideas are supported. His encouragement has allowed our team to have some productive brainstorming exercises,” says Marcel. “Right from the start, there were clear objectives that have helped me in very tangible ways.”

Arbor’s Mentorship Program is actively accepting applications, and Scott is open to talking to anyone who is looking for guidance in their real estate career. “At the end of the program,” he says, “I hope we have created the kind of agent that we’d like to work with — that’s the goal.”
